Kenya has 54 National Parks and Reserves that are well managed and protected by the government and communities around them.

Here are some of the major and most visited Wildlife National Parks and Reserves in Kenya

Masai Mara National Park

Located in the South of Kenya’s Capital City, Nairobi, Masai Mara is regarded as the biggest National Reserve in Kenya with a size of  1510m2. Surrounded by community and private conservancy, Masai Mara is Admired to be the best destination to witness the big cats, wildebeest migration and crossings. Masai Mara National Reserve hosts most of the well-known luxury camps and lodges that have won numerous awards.

Amboseli National Park

Known as the land of the giants, Amboseli National Park is the best park to spot Elephants in huge herds, the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro from the comfort of your tent or room. You are privileged to spot a wide variety of wildlife species such as the Elephants, Lions, Cheetahs, Leopards, wildebeests, antelopes, and many more wildebeest species.

Amboseli National Park is well decorated with the beauty of greater and lesser flamingos with a backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro at the back.

Lake Nakuru National Park

A premium park in Kenya, Lake Nakuru National park is home to the famous greater and lesser flamingos and the southern white rhinos. With sightings of big cats such as lions and leopards, it gets interesting when the action starts as they try to find a meal for the day.

Lake Nakuru is a conserved National Park specifically to look after the endangered southern white rhinos. Its 3/4 occupied by water and the rest are hilly landmasses that are home to the wildlife. It has a waterfall, Makalia Water Falls, that’s seasonal and is fed by a local river known as Ndarugo River.

Tsavo East and West National Parks

One of the biggest Parks in Kenya, Tsavo West, and Tsavo East National Parks are the best parks to visit while at the Kenyan coast or from Nairobi. With a size of 24,000km2 both combined, the parks are home to wild dogs, lions, red elephants, and many other wildlife species and birds.

David Sheldrick Ithumba Elephant Sanctuary is one of the main activities you can do in Tsavo West and East as you can adopt and foster a baby elephant and always go to visit them any time you need to.

Samburu National Reserve

Located in the Northern part of Kenya, Samburu National Reserve is one of the best reserves to visit and spot the special five wildlife categories, such as the big five. It shares the same ecosystem with Meru National Park and Kora National Park.

When here you will spot, Beisa Oryx, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy Zebra, Gerenuk Gazelle, Lions, Leopards, Elephants, Wild dogs, and many other wildlife and bird species. Its host to some high-end luxury camps and lodges such as the Sasaab Lodge, Saruni Lodges and Camps.

Aberdares and Mt. Kenya National Park

They are located in the central region of Kenya. Mostly residence to the small elephants, wild pigs, and hyenas among many other wildlife and bird species. Also, home and source of water which Kenya residents get supply from. With its good number of water sources, the region has several waterfalls some that is the longest in Africa and with running freshwater.

With amazing and unique accommodation facilities such as the Treetops and Aberdare The Ark, Serena Mountain Lodge and Fairmont Mt. Kenya, they give amazing exposure to wildlife in the comfort of your room and restaurant.

Lake Bogoria National Reserve

Known as the home to the greater and lesser flamingos, its located west of Nairobi. Some 250km away. Lake Bogoria is a salty lake that’s best suitable for the flamingos to feed on algae and get more nutritional components from this reach lake. They fly all the way from Lake Natron where they breed to lake Bogoria for this special meal for themselves.

Nairobi National Park

Famous for its proximity to the City, just a 15-minute drive from the CBD, sits a small wild National Park, Nairobi National Park. Home to the endangered southern white rhinos and black rhinos, it keeps them safe.

You can spot most of the wildlife species like lions, leopards, giraffes, and other wildlife species. Being a small park of 117.2km2, the park can not host huge animals such as the elephants that feed on the grass in plenty.

Meru National Park

The last Wilderness, famous for the conservation of lions by George Adamson and Elsa who resided in Meru and Kora National Park. The park is virgin wilderness and not much explored. You can spot some of the special 5 member species of wildlife.
