The Reteti Elephant Sanctuary was officially opened by the Samburu County Governor, H.E Moses Lenolkulal, on the 20th August 2016. Designed to Rescue and release orphaned and abandoned elephant calves, whilst creating much-needed benefits to the local people that live alongside them.

2. David Sheldrick Elephant and Rhino Sanctuary – Nairobi and Tsavo East Kenya

Born from one family’s passion for Kenya and its wilderness, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust was established more than 40 years ago and is best known for its Orphans’ Project, the first and most successful elephant orphan rescue and rehabilitation program in the world.

The Sheldrick Trust is a pioneering conservation organization, dedicated to the protection of wildlife and the preservation of habitats in East Africa.

We protect a number of threatened and endangered species across Kenya including black and white rhinos, as well as iconic animals like African elephants.

By protecting keystone species, we ensure a plethora of other animals and ecosystems continue to survive and, more importantly, thrive.

3. Lilayi Elephant Orphanage – Lilayi, Lusaka, Zambia

Through our partnership with Game Rangers International, a non-profit conservation organization, Lilayi Lodge is giving them a home and a family at the Lilayi Elephant Nursery with the hope of reintroducing them to the wild. This is all achieved with the ongoing support from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife.

As an in-house guest of Lilayi Lodge, you have the unique opportunity to go Behind The Scenes “BTS” and get a first hand look at the project as well as contribute to the conservation efforts by assisting the elephant keepers in caring for these baby Elephants. The charge for this unique experience goes 100% towards the project and wildlife conservation in Zambia.

4. Elephant Havens – Maun, Botswana

The Elephant Havens orphanage is nestled along the banks of the Gomoti River, at the edge of the Okavango Delta. It is an ideal place for young elephants to live and receive daily care and companionship until they are ready to be reintroduced to the wild.

Alongside the elephant enclosures (bomas), the fenced grounds also contain a freshwater well, veterinary office and lab, elephant formula prep kitchen, administrative office, reception area, public bathrooms, and a main building for meetings, education and group events. The staff village includes separate bedrooms, a kitchen, hot showers and flushing toilets. All of the buildings are solar-powered.

5. Elephants without Borders – Botswana

EWB is based in Kazungula, Botswana’s border town where the boundaries of Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe meet along the Zambezi River.

EWB operates its’ projects and activities in the southern Africa region of the contiguous wildlife populations range between Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe under the official endorsement and full support of government authorities.
